No Kisses For You

Hurley's got this cute little routine he does with customers at the shop.  He says hello as close to the door as possible (we're working on that), follows you around until you say hello to him, leans in for a good pet/rub/butt scratch and when you lean over, enraptured by his insanely adorable mug, he reaches up for a quick, gentle, non-obtrusive lick on your chin.  And then if you're really lucky...or if you just came over from the pizza shop next door...you get a second one.

It's too freakin' adorable to take most days.  Especially when he does it for every. single. customer.

Except for one ginormous fact.  Hurley never gives me kisses.  At most, I've gotten 2.  Ever.  He also has never given the Hubster kisses.

  1. haha ... maybe you need to up your pizza intake! I am usually the lucky recipient of not only a welcome home kiss ... but the dreaded tongue in the mouth that they sometimes sneak in.

    1. Oh by no means do I need to up my pizza intake! I don't want to admit how many times I have a slice for lunch.

    2. Mmmmm....thinking about pizza made me think about Sparky's....Daniel and I frequented Sparky's more times than I'd like to admit on our weeklong trip to Portland!

  2. Aww. No sad trombones! Elli rarely gives me kisses either, where she literally bathes my parents most days and the occasional small child and stranger. I think it just represents a more stable relationship between us than any child/stranger/parent has with her.

Also, animals like snakes and mammals other than humans have the Jacobson's organ allowing them to detect/identify chemical/pheromonal stimuli!

    1. Glad to hear it's not just me. Maggie never gives kisses to me or anyone else (except very occasionally the Hubster) so this selective kissing but not me is new to us.

  3. Ha ha, I know that one! My dogs love to give wet slobberies...except to me.

    1. Glad to hear I'm not alone! I still have Sadie, who reserves most of her kisses for me so I can't complain too much.

  4. My dogs pretty much take me for granted too and lavish affection on total strangers. I'm not sure I understand why.

  5. Maybe Hurley is just trying to do his part to help the family business by making NoPo Paws THE place to get awesome puppy kisses!

    1. That's a distinct possibility. Goodness knows he takes his job as shop dog very seriously. :)

  7. Don't feel sad. I had a sweet sweet sweet Irish Setter rescue that loved him Momma dearly. He refused to kiss me. But he kissed EVERYONE else he met. Never did figure that one out?!?

PS just found your blog from over at Waldo Bungee, loving having another great one to add to my reading list!
