Long Overdue Post 2: Snow!

Here in Portland, we kinda have the best of both worlds.  It doesn't really snow much here in the city.  At all in fact.  But an hour away?  Winter Wonderland up on Mt Hood.

On New Years Eve, we loaded Hurley and Sadie in the Jeep and headed up the mountain.  We skipped the ski resorts and snow parks, heading out to where we usually camp each summer.  That means forest roads.  That aren't maintained during the winter.   In the Jeep, we can take the road less traveled and it's nice to take advantage of that from time to time. It was quiet and peaceful with not a soul around.  A beautiful day for a walk in the wintry woods.

Hurley definitely lost the snowball fight.
This is about when the Hubster says "There's definitely something in the woods.  Something big."  He does this shit to me every time we are out in the woods.

I call this the Hurley as Hungry Hippo series.
Seriously.  Can you not see the resemblance?

Yup.  They had fun.

  3. Woooo!! That looks like so much fun! We definitely do not take enough advantage of the fact that we live so close to the snow. I would love to get Athena up to Mt. Hood someday, but we are wimpy snow people and don't even own chains for our cars...=)

I do especially like the hungry hippo. Totally hilarious!

    1. I was a little worried that it was a bit too much even for our four wheel drive. Not a drive I would recommend to anyone without tons of snow driving experience and four wheel drive for sure. But once we got there, I was able to relax from the perpetual worry of us getting stuck and enjoyed the white stuff!

  4. I've totally blog stalked you since finding your site linked to some other pittie blogs. Now I'm obsessed with your pooches!! Especially baby Hurley, what a smushy mush face. Looks like everyone's thoroughly enjoying the winter. What do you guys use for tethering when you go camping? We're looking to take our first outing soon...

    1. Welcome to my blog! I'll have to check yours out too. Thanks for much for commenting.

We just use rope and a tree to tether our dogs. We don't camp at campgrounds and just go to some off road camping spots deep in the Mt Hood Nat'l Forest so they tend to get a bit more time off tether than we would at organized campgrounds.

  9. Love the running pictures...they do look like they're having a blast! We have a similar situation, no snow down here, but we can go to Tahoe in a few hours where there's always snow in the winter:D Though only a 1 hour drive would be really nice!
